OEM PC & Laptop Repair in Tempe, AZ

Serving Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, and Ahwatukee — Local Computer Repair is the East Valley's go-to shop for all major laptop and PC brands. Whether you bought your machine from a big box store, ordered it online, or inherited it from a family member, we work on it.

Every major laptop and PC brand has its quirks — the models that are known for hinge problems, the lines notorious for overheating, the generations with keyboard issues, and the ones that are built to last decades. At Local Computer Repair in Tempe we've worked on virtually every major brand and we know what to look for before we even open the machine.

Here's what you need to know about the brands we service most often.

ASUS

ASUS makes some of the best laptops on the market — and some that have well-documented issues. The ROG and TUF gaming lines are popular and capable, but known for hinge stress on certain models and aggressive thermal throttling that a proper cleaning and thermal paste replacement dramatically improves. The ZenBook line is sleek and reliable. Budget ASUS models can have build quality that doesn't match the price. Whatever ASUS you bring in, we know what to check.

Common ASUS issues we see: hinge failure, overheating and thermal throttling, screen damage on thin models, keyboard failures on certain generations.

Acer

Acer's Nitro and Predator lines are popular budget gaming laptops with strong performance for the price — but they run hot and the build quality on hinges and chassis can leave something to be desired. The Aspire line is a reliable everyday workhorse. Acer's Swift ultrabooks are thin and light with good battery life.

Common Acer issues we see: Nitro overheating, hinge failure on budget models, screen replacement on Aspire and Swift lines.

Dell

Dell makes a wide range of machines from budget Inspiron laptops to premium XPS ultrabooks and Alienware gaming rigs. XPS machines are beautifully built but have some of the most complex disassembly procedures of any Windows laptop — proper repair requires experience and patience. Inspiron machines are workhorses that last. Alienware gaming laptops run hot and benefit significantly from thermal paste replacement and cleaning.

Common Dell issues we see: XPS screen replacement, Inspiron hard drive and SSD upgrades, Alienware overheating, hinge wear on older Inspiron models.

HP

HP is one of the most common brands we see in the shop. The Pavilion and Envy lines are popular consumer laptops — solid performers that are unfortunately known for hinge issues, particularly where the hinge mounts into the plastic chassis. The Spectre line is HP's premium ultrabook offering. HP EliteBooks are business-grade machines built to a higher standard than consumer HP.

Common HP issues we see: hinge failure and chassis cracking especially on Pavilion models, screen replacement, SSD upgrades on older models, keyboard issues.

Lenovo

Lenovo makes two very different categories of machines. The ThinkPad line is legendary for build quality, repairability, and longevity — these are business machines built to last and they show it. The IdeaPad consumer line is more hit or miss — capable at the price point but with lighter build quality than ThinkPad. The Legion gaming line offers strong performance.

Common Lenovo issues we see: IdeaPad hinge failure, Legion overheating, ThinkPad keyboard and trackpad issues, screen replacement across all lines.

MSI

MSI gaming laptops offer strong GPU performance and are popular with serious gamers. They run hot by design and benefit regularly from thermal paste replacement and cleaning. MSI's build quality has improved significantly in recent generations.

Common MSI issues we see: overheating and thermal throttling, screen replacement on high refresh rate panels, hinge wear.

Razer

Razer Blade laptops are premium gaming machines with excellent build quality and stunning displays — but they are among the most difficult laptops to repair due to tight tolerances, proprietary components, and complex disassembly. Screen replacement and thermal paste work are the most common repairs.

Common Razer issues we see: overheating, screen damage, battery degradation on older Blades.

Samsung

Samsung's Galaxy Book line has grown into a legitimate premium laptop competitor with excellent displays and build quality. Repairs are less common than other brands simply because they're newer to the market but we handle them.

Toshiba and Sony VAIO

Older Toshiba and Sony VAIO laptops are still in active use and we repair them. Parts availability varies by model and age — we'll always tell you honestly if parts for your specific machine are difficult to source.

Don't See Your Brand?

Chances are we can still help. Bring it in for our flat $45 diagnostic and we'll assess your machine regardless of brand. If for any reason your specific model requires parts or procedures outside our capability, we'll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction.

Every Brand, One Honest Diagnostic

Whatever brand you're bringing in, the process is the same. Flat $45 diagnostic, honest assessment, clear explanation of what it needs and what it will cost before any work begins. No surprises.
